"Headed For Home"

In the Spring of 1991 the Airline Viking baseball team experienced the single greatest season in school history.  This was a historic season that encompassed 30 wins in a row only to fall in the State Title game.  The “boys on blue” were led by the iconic names of Walker, Brandon, and Bohanon.  The buzz around NW Louisiana was all about the stellar play of this nationally ranked club that had put Airline on the grandest stage.  The baseball program rose to the status of an “elite” and respected standard bearer that caused others to elevate their programs to emulate the Vikings.

Fast forward 25 years later and the “boys in blue” are at it again.  This time around while some of the names tie back to Viking legends, we also have spiced the pot with Parikh, Davis, and Bamburg.  Yes, we still have a Taylor, a Backofen, and of course a Brandon, but other names that will be remembered are Waxley, Hodges, James, and Zickefoose (who could forget that).  I would be remiss if I did not mention the glue that holds this group together and that is Coach Todd.

The point of this historical bridge is that with all the change that has taken place in North Bossier, one constant has been the excellence of Airline Baseball.  It is extremely difficult to maintain the high level of production that truly gives our school a notable identity in and around our state.  We are so proud of all the accomplishments and the pure joy that is attached to seeing a community come together again in celebration of this amazing journey.

As the school year winds down, we are definitely “headed for home”.  The excitement is building with all the anticipation of what the close of school brings.  We have Graduation, we have Ring-Ding, and of course the conclusion of Final Exams.  We will truly sprint to the line with a great anticipation of closing a fantastic school year on a positive note.  With this being said, I want to encourage each student and teacher to make our final “kick”. We must push ourselves to be excellent in all that we do.  Yes, I know it is tough, but that is what we do.  No, that is who we are.  I wish you all the best and let’s make sure we cross the plate.

May God Bless You All,

Jason Rowland, Principal—Airline High School
