Greetings

As we wind up the month of February, I wanted to take a minute of your time to let you know of the exciting things that have taken place at our school over the last month.

First, we have two National Merit Finalists.  Congratulations to Ryan Elledge and Trevor Youngblood.  They were both selected as finalist this month.  What an outstanding accomplishment for these two young men.  Both are 4.0 students and have represented themselves and our school in an exemplary fashion.  We are very proud of the accolades that they have earned and know that they will be very successful in the coming years.

I would also like to recognize our girls’ soccer and girls’ basketball teams on making it into the playoffs.  Girls’ soccer had an outstanding 13-4 regular season record before bowing out of the playoffs against Baton Rouge High.  Our girls’ basketball team returned to the playoffs after missing out last year.  Their 22-12 record earned them a 3rd place finish in our district and they won their first round game against St. Joseph Academy of Baton Rouge.  Southwood ended our season in the second round in a hard fought game.  Congratulations to both teams on a job well done and congratulations to Coach Pratt and Coach Duhon.

Thanks to Ms. Deborah Adams, our librarian.  She orchestrated the trivia game that we have been participating in for Black History Month.  Our students have jumped at the chance to earn Viking Vouchers for answering the trivia questions.  It has generated a lot of interest.

Our boys’ basketball team is involved in a playoff game on Feb. 26th at home against Natchitoches.  Coach Chris White’s team won the district championship outright last week.  After we win against Natchitoches, we will likely play Scottlandville in the Baton Rouge area.

Stay tuned for more updates on Airline accomplishments.
