February Message

Fast February.jpg   A Fast February—2016

Where did January go?  It seems to me that we blinked and the first month is gone.  As fast as we went through the initial 31 days, our next 29 will be even faster.  We have a great February planned as we steam-roll toward the elements of the school year that will define AHS.  We are actively promoting the ACT Initiatives that are so important to us.  We are attacking the issues that we have determined to be deficiencies and fostering avenues to remedy these weaknesses.  We see this month as the critical time that allows for the successes or failures that will ultimately define where we are in our academic settings.  I want to encourage the school family to see the importance for what we are accomplishing and support this tremendous effort.

February is an active month on the calendar.  We have the close of our winter sports and the kick-off of the sports that include something being in the air.  Whether it is a ball, an implement, or a body we will see many of our athletes that have been training all year and now is their time to shine.  We have an active Arts department that is not only preparing for our Spring Play, but also to compete in the ArtBreak. Students are being challenged in and out of the classroom with hopes of maintaining all of the responsibilities that they are being challenged with.  The key to this month is to stay focused and stay steady in the process.  We cannot afford to down in the count and then have to fight back on this.

Let’s all maintain our momentum and create an atmosphere of success.  If anything, I want to encourage you to find an excuse to give your all.  May God Bless You All—Jason Rowland, Principal

Destination Imagination

On Saturday January 23, Louisiana Destination Imagination held its annual Super Saturday event at Elm Grove Middle School.  Super Saturday is a chance for DI teams from around the state to practice their Instant Challenge skills in preparation for the Louisiana DI State Tournament in March.  Instant Challenge scores make up 25% of the overall team score at State Tournament and Global Competition.

Airline DI students spent the afternoon completing a series of challenges that  required them to work together to come up with out of the box solutions.  Constructing bridges, developing a nonverbal, non-visual method of communication, and manipulating materials without touching them were just a few of the challenges students were faced with.
