This year, Boy Scout Troop 113 of Bossier City achieved several milestones. The troop celebrated it's 50th year as a chartered organization of The Knights of Columbus Council 4873 and added its 72nd Eagle Scout to the Eagle Scout Plaque dedicated last year on the Boy Scouts 100th anniversary celebration.  On Monday night, December 19, 2011, Airline High School Junior Chris Galvin, son of Larry and Laura Galvin,  was the next Eagle Scout to have his name etched on the plaque. Chris was presented with his Eagle neckerchief by his mother, Laura Galvin and the Eagle Scout medal was presented by his brother, Tim Galvin, an Eagle Scout himself.

Remember to save and collect “Pull Tabs” from your cans!  Put them in a Zip Lock bag and turn it in to your homeroom teacher.  Make sure you put your homeroom teacher’s name on the bag so that your class receives the appropriate credit.

This project is very important because it allows AHS to support and make a charitable donation to a student from our local area.    This is a school-wide service project that will run until March 23rd.

Please see your homeroom teacher and the link below for additional information.

January Message—A New Year’s Resolution for 2012   resolutions.png

While many of us are motivated to start our dreaded resolutions, we all have to get used to writing 2012.  I used to make my students write the new date 50 times just to make sure we could get the hang of it.  So as we roll into the New Year we all are excited about the new beginning and the fresh start.  We have now set goals and plans that will allow us to do better, be better, or get better. The New Year brings a spirit of renewal that hopefully transcends into success wherever this applies.

As far as Airline High School is concerned we share in many of the resolutions that lead to success.  With the new term we have a chance to start over and do better, be better, or get better.  I hope we have “the want” to make anew and strive for more success.  (Yes that is Les Miles speech)  I am encouraging a focus for our faculty and staff like never before.  I want us to possess an energy that allows our students to get excited about AHS.  Next, we all need to share in a “can do attitude” that breeds accomplishments in and through our school community.  We have to be willing to work hard both in and outside of the classroom.  We must realize that we have the awesome responsibility to influence each other and hold onto accountability.  Lastly, we have to build endurance to maintain a high level of excellence over the next 18 weeks.

This is a microcosm for what it takes to be a Champion.  This is what it takes to be Great.  This is what it takes to finish the race with strength.  This is what it takes to be a Viking.  I challenge each of you to keep your New Year’s Resolutions and you just might be amazed at what you can accomplish.

May God Bless You,

Jason Rowland
