SUMMER READING ASSIGNMENTS

Your summer reading assignment is the John Steinbeck novel The Grapes of Wrath.  You won't be reading the entire book...only the opening chapter and the chapters involving the Joad family.  You can find the actual assignments on the Airline High School Home Page.

ENGLISH II Pre-AP and HONORS READING LIST

Honors students will need to either purchase, borrow, or check out the following titles.  I do recommend purchasing through Amazon.com since it is usually cheaper and the books are delivered very quickly.  If you can find the books, the Thrifty Peanut on Benton Road is a wonderful used bookstore that is also a more cost effective option.  Kindle versions of books are absolutely acceptable as well.  Parents are encouraged to read the books as well and email me if there are any questions about how I will approach a text.

1.  The Woman in Black   by Susan Hill.  Pre-AP students will begin reading this book in mid August.  Honors will need the book by the end of August.  Concrete dates will be posted later.  I have several that are available for checkout.

2.  Macbeth   by William Shakespeare   Please purchase the blue "No Fear Shakespeare" version or any other version that includes a side by side contemporary "translation."  NO GRAPHIC NOVELS!!!!   I have several that can be checked out from me.

3.  Pre-AP only:  Amusing Ourselves to Death by Neil Postman.  This is a different text from previous years, so you will have to purchase a copy of this book.

4.  Inferno   by Dante Alighieri  PLEASE PURCHASE THE JOHN CIARDI TRANSLATION!!  I do have many of these books that can be checked out from me on a first come, first served basis.
