Welcome to the Theatre and Speech Department!

I'm so excited to be a part of the Airline High School Theatre and Speech Department!  The 2017/2018 school year will prove to be a challenging and satisfying endeavor for both students and instructors.

Airline High School offers a full time theatre and speech department with six classes of theatre, speech, and focused literature classes.  The theatre classes include all levels of acting, (physical and verbal delivery, character development, oral interpretation), technical theatre and design, (lighting, sound, staging, make up and costuming), directing,  producing, and script analyzing and creating.  In speech class, students have the opportunity to hone intrapersonal and interpersonal communication skills through group and individual presentations.  Students will also be exposed to high-level speech presentations by participating in District and State Speech Rallies.  The theatre department is also home to several literature classes:  Film as Literature and Bible as Literature.

The annual production calendar includes:  Fall and Spring variety shows, and a celebrated large-scale spring musical/play.  The themed variety shows showcase the top talent in AHS; individuals and groups audition for spots in the show, and the theatre/speech classes create dances, write monologues and scenes, and prepare stage and props to perform in the show.  Last year we were thrilled at the response to our Spring musical, The Little Mermaid; a record number of patrons attended the two performances.

In addition to the various performances the AHS theatre department participates in, the theatre department , through the avenue of the tech theatre class, is responsible for creating and implementing staging for numerous AHS and Bossier Parish school events.

Due date:  August 17-18
